// YOUR MISSION
As a Cloud Engineer at Aknostic, you work as a consultant with operational responsibilities. You'll work supporting different applications and teams, which keeps things varied: different stacks, different challenges, different people. You are involved in the full lifecycle of cloud infrastructures: from design and implementation through to operations, monitoring, and incident response.
You are also the face of Aknostic to our customers. You explain your solutions, keep people informed, and follow through on what you promise.
// IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL
- Build new infrastructures or migrate existing ones to the cloud: sometimes greenfield, sometimes complex legacy systems that need careful handling.
- Operate these infrastructures: set up monitoring and alerting, respond to incidents, and continuously improve reliability, resilience, performance, and security. This is not a side task; it's at least half the job, and it's where some of the most satisfying work happens.
- Share on-call responsibility with the team. When something breaks at night, we count on each other. The good news: we build things well, so this doesn't happen often.
- Investigate and troubleshoot problems across systems you didn't build yourself. This requires genuine curiosity; the kind of person who enjoys figuring out how an unfamiliar system actually works.
Sound like your kind of work?
Apply now// WHAT YOU BRING
You've spent enough time in production to know that building something is only part of the job. You've been on call, you've debugged things at inconvenient hours, and you've learned to build systems that let you sleep through the night. You're the kind of engineer who digs into unfamiliar systems out of genuine curiosity, communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical people, and makes the team around you stronger.
You must have
- ✓A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
- ✓At least 7 years of experience in Software Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or DevOps.
- ✓Hands-on experience running production Kubernetes workloads (certifications are a plus, but production experience matters more).
- ✓Experience operating in a public cloud environment (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Scaleway).
Good to have
- +Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi).
- +Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Bitbucket Pipelines, AWS CodePipeline), GitOps systems (FluxCD, ArgoCD).
- +Experience working with legacy or complex system migrations.

On average you work from our customers' office one day per week, and one day from our office in Utrecht. Other days are up to you. In return, we ask for the flexibility to handle incidents when you're on call.
On Thursdays we all come together at our office on the Oudegracht. We have lunch together, there are company meetings, and around 4pm we have a drink with each other. On sunny days we cruise around the city on a colleague's boat. It's a team that genuinely enjoys spending time together.
